Welcome, to Spencer County

Spencer County Prosecutor, Jon A. Dartt, welcomes you to Spencer County. Spencer County is a rural county in Southwestern Indiana. It is bordered on the south by the Ohio River with Interstate 64 being the approximate northern border of the county. In 1818, it became a separate county named after Spier Spencer, a Revolutionary War hero.

Spencer County is nearly 400 square miles with a population of approximately 20,000. The City of Rockport is the county seat. Rockport is the largest incorporated municipality in the county. The other incorporated towns in Spencer County are Chrisney, Dale, Gentryville, Grandview, and Santa Claus.

Spencer County was the home of Abraham Lincoln from the ages of 7 to 21. Spencer County is the home of the Lincoln Amphitheater, Holiday World Splashin Safari, Lincoln State Park, Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial, Lincoln Pioneer Village, Colonel Jones House, Huffman Mill Covered Bridge, several historic churches, and the St. Meinrad Archabbey. Spencer County is a popular tourist destination.
